Get rid of some stuff.

Is everyone talking about this these days (and for the last few years) or is it just because I’ve gotten a little obsessed with it?

I lived in Wisconsin for several years, and I got really into organizing my junk there before I got into minimizing. I think it started with me binging YouTube organizing videos. In Milwaukee, I had a studio apartment at first, but I also had a separate storage closet where I kept extra decor and extra things I wasn’t using. I crammed a lot in both the studio and the storage closet. Thanks to my crotchety downstairs neighbor who would not leave me alone, I got to move to a one bedroom for the same cost. As I carried my crap down the hall to the new apartment, I was really able to think about what I wanted in this new apartment. However, I slowly acquired more as I lived there, and I brought it all to my new, much bigger apartment in Nashville in 2019. I could keep anything I wanted because I had so much room. There was an unused guest room with a truly humongous closet (like it could have been used as another bedroom). Also, I was actual walking distance from a Home Goods. SO. MUCH. DECOR. Not only could I keep a bunch of stuff that I didn’t really use but felt weird getting rid of, but I could also buy anything I wanted at the best store ever.

But fast forward another year, and it is 2020, I’m married, and we are moving together to a much smaller (but much nicer) apartment. I had to get rid of a lot of stuff I just wasn’t using, and it got easier and easier the more I did it. It is now 2025, and we moved from that little apartment in Nashville to a four-bedroom home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast!

We are still settling in, but this big move was 1000% easier because I didn’t have to do a huge declutter before we left. I don’t have rooms full of stuff I don’t like, and I’m not spending my days at Target looking for a bunch of stuff to fill it up with. I think that minimizing in Nashville and then practicing routine decluttering and decreased spending has made a lot of aspects of this move easier. I think it has also made daily routines easier to do and easier to stick to, and I’d like to help others find ways to do that. I hope this little site will be a collection of ways to do that.

All this to say: GET RID OF SOME STUFF. You deserve to feel better in your own space. You deserve to feel calm when you are at home. I’d love to help!

Come again!
